James Irwin joined Donan in 2016 as a forensic engineer based out of the firm’s Hartford, Connecticut office. He has 11 years of engineering experience primarily in structural engineering where he designed building structures and modifications to existing buildings as part of an architectural team. Mr. Irwin has extensive experience in the structural design of the following building types: residential, industrial, health care, low- and mid-rise buildings, K-12 education buildings, higher education, and wood, masonry, steel and concrete structures. His areas of expertise are structural integrity evaluation, structural steel design and evaluation, and masonry structure renovation, and he commonly completes a wide range of other projects at Donan including roof inspections, structural component failures, foundation evaluations, water intrusion, commercial losses, and blasting damage, among others.
Mr. Irwin is a licensed professional engineer in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New York, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Maine, Maryland and Vermont, and a licensed structural engineer in Illinois. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
